Bad Breath (Halitosis) and Vitamins B1
Taking too much of vitamins B1 can cause Bad Breath (Halitosis), drowsiness and muscle relaxation. When these vitamins are not absorbed by the body, they accumulate in body and are not eliminated. The longer these un-absorbed vitamins stay in the body the more likely you would suffer from Bad Breath
Vitamin B1 (also called Thiamin)
Vitamin B1 is a water-soluble vitamin (and part of the B vitamin family) that is absorbed through the intestines and it is vital for the breakdown of sugars that provide the body with energy. This sugars are known as carbohydrates. The body already has a mechanism for breaking down carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are usually broken down into the required body’s energy, when you are doing low level activity like resting or having a nap. Vitamin B1 helps to calm, support adrenal function (the Adrenal function glands sits on top of your kidneys) and also helps to maintain a healthy and properly functioning nervous system.
B1 deficiency is quite rare and only occurs in cases where the body finds it difficult to absorb Thiamin (B1) through the intestine. Drinking too much alcohol,
carbonated beverages, coffee and tea, and eating raw seafood can interfere with the absorption of vitamin BI through the intestine. The lack of vitamin B1 in the body normally causes Beriberi and other oral related problems.
Vitamin B1 can be found in a wide variety foods at low concentrations. Yeast and Liver (pork or beef) are the most highly concentrated sources of vitamin B1. Other good sources of vitamin B1 are cereal grains, oatmeal, brown rice, whole grain flour (rye or wheat), green leaf vegetables, red meat, asparagus, kale, sweet corn, cauliflower, potatoes, oranges and cured ham.
Vitamin B1 is generally considered safe and non-toxic, even at high doses but taking mega doses (doses higher than 100 mg) may cause bad breath, drowsiness or muscle relaxation, and in some case well documented cases, some people report a burning sensation when vitamin B1 was received through an injection.
